My friend Chris Hoar (Pet Pardons founder) just wrote a beautiful piece on his Facebook about his experience with Shannon Keith (Beagle Freedom Project founder) and their rescue of the El Cajon 10. I want to share with you what he wrote because it moved me to tears. This is from Chris:
The beagles were rescued from a research and it is estimated they are between 5 and 10 years old, and every single one of them had most likely never even seen daylight before. ‘Research’ beagles are usually confined to a cage 24 hours a day 7 days a week, 365 days a year. They are not socialized, they are not exercised, they are not played with, they simply have no idea how to be dogs. They had scars all over their bodies where they had been injected with God only knows what, they had been cut open and poorly stitched back up (many of the wounds were either bleeding and or badly infected) most of them had advanced tooth rot & decay, and a lot of them were clearly in pain.
Beagles are used for ‘research’ and ‘testing’ because they are the most docile, loving, gentle and forgiving of all dogs. They will not fight back, they will not attack you no matter how much torture you inflict upon them and so they are ‘easy’ to ‘work’ with. What’s even worse to me is that the vast majority of ‘testing’ is done for 2 categories, products (such as household cleaners) & cosmetics/personal care products. Do we really need to test eye liner and dish soap on dogs?”
If you would like to find out more about these beagles & the Beagle Freedom Project,or you would like to become a foster parent for one of these beagles then please go to: http://beaglefreedomproject.org You can help these poor babies every day by NOT buying anything tested on animals. #vegansofig

All About Non-Dairy Milks!
Soy MilkSoy milk is made from filtered water and whole soybeans. This milk is the most popular dairy alternative and has the closest nutritional profile to cow’s milk. While most brands of soy milk contain the same amount of protein, vitamin D and calcium as cow’s milk, other brands of soy milk do not contain any added vitamins or other nutrients. So, always keep your eye on ingredients lists and nutritional information before you make your purchase.Almond MilkAlmond milk is a great alternative to cow’s milk when you are looking to cut calories. This nut milk is made from almond base containing filtered water and ground almonds. The bad news about almond milk is that it contains very little protein—just 1 gram per cup. Though most varieties of almond milk are fortified with vitamins and other nutrients, there are others that don’t contain vitamin D or calcium.Hemp Milk Hemp milk is made from hemp nut base (filtered water and shelled hemp seed) and contains a slew of healthy nutrients including calcium, vitamin D and a moderate amount of protein.Rice MilkRice milk is a nice option when you want something with a neutral flavor. Though some feel that rice milk is not as creamy as other non-dairy milk alternatives, when fortified, it usually does contain the same amount of calcium and vitamin D as cow’s milk. But if you’re looking for protein, this probably isn’t the milk for you.Oat MilkOat milk is made from oat groats, filtered water, and other grains and beans. If you have a soy allergy, make sure to read the label before buying oat milk as some varieties contain soybeans. Oat milk is mild, with a hint of sweetness and packs a punch when it comes to calcium and vitamin D (again, only if fortified with these nutrients). This powerful grain-based milk also contains 4 grams of protein per cup.Hazelnut MilkHazelnut milk has a smooth, creamy texture and is made from hazelnut base (roasted hazelnuts and filtered water). Like almond milk, hazelnut milk contains far less protein than cow’s milk. However, this dairy alternative can contain up to 30% DV of calcium and 25% DV of vitamin D per cup if it is fortified.Coconut MilkThe new cartons of coconut milk popping up in the dairy section are not the same as the canned coconut milk you purchase to make your favorite Thai dish. The ingredients found in refrigerated and shelf-stable coconut milk cartons include coconut cream (water, coconut, guar gum), cane sugar and added nutrients. Canned coconut milk simply contains coconut water (juice). Coconut milk is a good alternative when you want something creamy and sweet. Though this milk offers 30% DV of vitamin D and 50% DV of vitamin B12, it contains little added calcium and just 1 gram of protein per cup. If you’re looking to reduce you saturated fat intake, keep in mind that coconut milk is the only non-dairy milk we’ve seen that contains as much saturated fat as whole cow’s milk.

Try telling me that animals don’t feel pain, that they aren’t scared to die, that they don’t want to live. All species - cows, dogs, birds, fish, rats, pigs, cats - deserve respect and a life free of suffering.

These intelligent sentient beings did nothing wrong to deserve the cruel treatment so often inflicted on them by humans. From testing on them, burning their skin for cosmetics, to confining them for entertainment or ‘growing’ them for their flesh, animal cruelty, even in so-called ‘civilized’ countries, is horrific.

Please consider adopting a compassionate vegetarian or vegan lifestyle to alleviate some of this suffering and abuse. Thank you.

Foie Gras… just forced fed ducks and geese, process so violent that many die with their organs ruptured or choked on their own vomit… forced feeding aims to bloat their livers up to 10 times the normal size, this will leave them unable to stand, developing infections, sometimes liver necrosis, spleen damage, bruised and broken bills and lumps in their throats… the animals are kept in poor conditions, small and dirty cages… and then, as you can see in the picture, the liver is harvested - according to the source - while they are still alive.

400 activists show real victims of human cruelty for the International Day of Animal Rights. The animals are gathered from the garbage at slaughterhouses, ponds, fur farms… all of them are already dead and thrown away like rubbish.

Thank you.
